Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is the oldest, professional, continually practiced literate medicine in the world with professionaly applied therapies including acupuncture, herbal medicine, dietary counseling, and massage. Traditional Chinese Medicine is a holistic medicine that does not differentiate body, mind, and spirit for treatment. An individual's emotional response to life is integral to Chinese medical diagnosis. TCM addresses the root cause of both physical and psychological conditions, and thus, treats the whole person. Chinese Medicine has no side effects. Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine will produce no unwanted side effects if properly administered. Two people presenting the same symptoms will often receive very different acupuncture treatments, herbal formulas and dietary recommendations based on their underlying patterns, emotional make-up and lifestyle practices. Such personally tailored treatment reduces the possibility of side effects. Treatment based on patterns and not just symptoms. The ability to treat the whole person without side effects is based on TCM's diagnostic method of pattern discrimination. A TCM pattern is the combination of all the signs and symptoms presented by the patient, and describes the deeper energetic imbalances that are the cause of the physical and psychological symptoms. Chinese Medicine is a preventative medicine. The essence of Chinese Medicine is the promotion of health and prevention of disease. The TCM practitioner seeks evidence of energetic changes that occur in the body or mind that, if untreated over a period of time, may lead to organic changes and more serious disease. |
